Phantom Sitemaps Cleared

01What was wrong

!

Insecure HTTP entries

The Yoast sitemap index listed all sub-sitemaps over http://, forcing every crawl through a 301 redirect.

404

Phantom sitemaps in robots.txt

sitemap-news.xml and product-sitemap.xml were referenced but didn't exist — both returning 404.

Fragmented index

Three separate sub-sitemaps with inconsistent references between robots.txt and the index file confused crawlers.

Crawl budget waste

Redirect chains and dead sitemap fetches were burning crawl budget on errors instead of real pages.

02What was delivered

XML

Single clean sitemap.xml

One flat file, HTTPS-only, semantically ordered: home → pages → services → service areas → blog. Crawler-friendly and fast to parse.

Every URL verified

All 77 entries returned HTTP 200 against the live site. No redirects, no 404s, no chained URLs left in the index.

Canonicalised to HTTPS

Replaces the legacy index that listed sub-sitemaps over http://, eliminating the redirect hop crawlers were taking on every visit.

Dead references removed

Two non-existent sitemaps referenced in robots.txt (sitemap-news, product-sitemap) and the orphaned legacy index are out of scope for the new submission.
